Stage 3 engine ECU remap - power/torque curves

On 14/15 April 2010 the Corsa was taken to Thorney Motorsport for a stage 3 engine remap. Previously (on 19 January 2010) maximum figures of 229.8bhp @ 5760rpm and 279lbft @ 3680rpm were achieved on the rolling road.

During this two day session the car was taken to Superchips and remapped to achieve 255.2bhp @ 6335rpm and 280.75ftlb @ 3415rpm.

The results of this latest stage 3 remap are shown below. The car drives more smoothly now with maximum torque being reached at lower rpm.

All in all a very satisfactory outcome.

Engine

Air/Fuel Ratio

Keeping the inlet temperatures low, and increasing the amount of fuel available enables my Corsa VXR to run much power and in safety.

With regard to air/fuel ratio (AFR) it is considered that an AFR of 16/17 gives optimum fuel economy whilst for maximum power an AFR of 12/14 is required. However for turbocharged engines this may be too lean and so for maximum reliabilty and power the AFR needs to be between 10.5 and 12.5.

AFR is the mass ratio of air to fuel present during combustion. Lambda (λ) is an alternative way to represent AFR

air to fuel ratio and lambda equations

The Wikipedia definition of air to fuel ratio and Lambda (λ) can be found here.

For my stage 3 remap the figures for AFR and Lambda (λ) are shown below. The AFR ranges between 10.50 and 12.50 which is spot on for maximum power whilst ensuring maximum reliabilty is maintained. Well done Thorney Motorsport!

AFR 12.20 12.50 11.20 12.40 10.50 11.20 12.00 12.00 11.2
Lambda(λ) 0.83 0.85 0.76 0.84 0.71 0.76 0.82 0.82 0.76
RPM 1375 1750 2438 3125 3938 4500 5125 5750 6250
