Quaife ATB (Automatic Torque Biasing) differential
On 19 November 2009 the Corsa was taken to Thorney Motorsport for a stage 2 engine remap. A Quaife ATB (Automatic Torque Biasing) differential was fitted.
The reasoning behind the decision to fit this differential is given below.
19 November 2009 - fitment of Quaife ATB (Automatic Torque Biasing) differential
Extract from information posted on the Thorney Motorsport website as to why the Quaife ATB differential is recommended...
Limited slip differentials (LSD) are the last connection between your gearbox and your driveshafts.
A LSD limits the difference in spin speed between the opposing driveshafts. In a standard open differential (standard on all VXR's) there is no limit in the difference of axle speed between left and right hand sides
In real world terms, on an open differential, if you turn your TCS off and dump the clutch the car will furiously spin the wheel with the least grip. (Usually the inside one.)
After fitting a Limited Slip Differential, the difference in torque bias is restricted mechanically. So, instead of transferring all the power to one wheel, the LSD limits the velocity difference between the driven wheels.
We believe this is one of the best modifications that can be done to the chassis of the Corsa VXR Racing.
On the Corsa VXR Racing we fit a Quaife ATB (Automatic Torque Biasing) differential. The Corsa VXR has a M32 gearboxand therefore uses the Quaife QDF25B differential. We supply them with stronger Timken bearings only, we feel they aren't optional.
