Larger front mounted intercooler upgrade

On 19 November 2009 the Corsa was taken to Thorney Motorsport for a stage 2 engine remap. In anticipation of a future stage 3 remap a larger front mounted intercooler was fitted.

The reasoning behind the decision to fit this larger intercooler is given below.

larger front mounted intercooler - Corsa VXR Racing

Extract from information posted on the Thorney Motorsport website as to why the larger intercooler is required...

Heat, its all about heat - we may sound a little paranoid about this but it's based on extensive experience of this engine in a similar environment. Fortunately this experience means we know how to deal with it and generate excellent power gains without loss in reliability. Whilst the Corsa VXR has a pretty efficient cooling system its simply not enough when you run more power from the turbo charger so our stage 3 ECU remap requires us to enhance this cooling function with the addition of a larger front mounted intercooler. This doesn't just mean that we're looking after the engine, it means that the power gains we create from the car are actually useable rather than simple rolling road figures obtained in a snapshot of time

The addition of our front mount intercooler drops intake temperatures by over 45% compared to the standard car and 65% when running a higher boost map. This allows us to run a more agressive map on the ECU to take advantage of the lower temperatures and gives a resulting higher power with this power more useable more of the time.
