Ceramic Coating
I have decided to have the exhaust manifold, GT28 turbo housing and exhaust downpipe coated with a metallic black ceramic coating. This will not only significantly lower exhaust temperatures and reduce heat loss from the exhaust resulting in lower engine bay temperatures but will also look good!!
Zircotec will carry out the work. General information about ceramic coating and it's advantages is given below.
Ceramic Coating - general information
As stated above the ceramic coating of the exhaust manifold, turbo housing and exhaust downpipe is to be carried out by Zircotec. Based upon their Performance White™ coating I have elected to have the Metallic Black Performance Colour™ finish.
This Performance Colour™ is a high temperature quality finish that is applied over the top of the plasma-sprayed ThermoHold®based coating. This provides levels of performance to Performance White™ but with a surface finish and texture that is robust and easily maintained
Some of the advantages offered by Zircotec Performance Colours™ coating are:
- Significantly lower exhaust temperatures - surface temperatures reduce by ~33%
- Reduced heat loss from the exhaust resulting in lower engine bay temperatures - reductions of >50°C are possible
- Improved engine performance and reliability. Lower air intake temperatures lead to increased engine power, whilst keeping the heat inside the exhaust gas allows the gases to flow more easily increasing cylinder scavenging and allowing turbochargers to spool up more quickly.
- Rapid cooling of the exhaust when the engine is turned off - the surface temperature of the coating drops quickly when the engine is off
